Iím a student at the University of Montevallo where I major in English and minor in Creative Writing. I have always loved the art of the narrative. The ability of a great story, of any kind, to transport you out of your surroundings and into another time and place is something I think is truly magnificent. When I was a young child I loved Dr. Seuss. The way he twisted and stretched the English language fascinated me and still does to this day. Even more brilliant was his ability to transmit deep moral truths in his stories. The pictures slipped off the page and into my mind where their bright colors and fantastic curves seeded powerful ideas that grew in thoughts and dreams. I wanted to be able to do the same thing. I wanted to be able to share my thoughts with others in such a way as to move them to feel an emotion so deeply it revealed a truth to them. As I grew I drew inspiration from movies such as Jurassic Park and Star Wars. These movies showed me that there was no need to turn away from what was not possible in the real world, because there were no impossibilities in the realm of the story. In this truth I was able to let my imagination reach its limits as to what could happen. I dreamt of what it would be like to go to space. I burned to know what it would be like to see a Wooly Mammoth walk across my front yard as I ate my morning breakfast. There was no way I was ever going to let anyone tell me something was impossible, because I knew there was a way anything could be achieved.

Having learned at Montevallo powerful skills for writing I feel more able to create stories the way I want to. The professors I have been lucky enough to study under have shared with me lessons that I will never forget. I will not forget them because I will use them for the rest of my life. Every time I sit down to write I draw on my past experiences and channel them into a narrative that will be a true expression of how I wish my story to be formed. It is my hope that you also will gain this love of crafting stories that is so strong in me, or if you already have it, that it grows fuller in you. I created this webpage about stories because I hold them close to my heart. Thank you for reading, thank you for submitting your own work. Most importantly, keep writing!
