Greek mythology began in Ancient Greece sometime between the 8th and 6th century and only really died out after Christianity became dominant. What we call mythology was once an almost unanimously agreed upon religion in Greece, serving as the cornerstone of their entire culture and even adopted by the Romans. Unlike some other religions, Ancient Greece had such a rich religious history that even thousands of years after people have stopped believing in the gods and goddesses the Greeks worshipped we still discuss them and pass them on in myths.
