The Dressmaking Process

First Stage of Dressmaking

Before the city-level interviews, each interviewee must commission a dressmaker to create her custom dress. She will be added to a waiting list until after the announcement of the new Azalea Trail Maids has been made. Each interviewee must also submit her top three dress color choices between blue, green, yellow, lavender and peach. Each girl's dress color is selected by the Board of Directors (as there can only be ten of each dress color). There are approximately a dozen official dressmakers throughout the city who will make a maximum of five dresses per year each. For the next five months, the Maid will meet with her dressmaker to design every unique detail of her dress. The average dress weighs 60 pounds and costs between $3,000-5,000!
